Zemplén Rally 2024 – Failed dream, worthy fight

The last round of the 2024 Hungarian Rally Championship was held in the Zemplén area between 25-27 October. Apart from the championship leaders Miklós Csomós and Attila Nagy, three other pairs had a mathematical chance to catch up with our team. Frigyes Turán and his team dropped out of the race prematurely, as they had submitted their entry for the weekend but were not able to participate due to other commitments, making the season-closing weekend a three-way race. The Mixi Csomós, the Velenczei Ádáms or the German Gábors.

The race had a one-way odds, so there were still a lot of points up for grabs. On Saturday there were nine and on Sunday eight speed stages, all in excellent clear autumn weather.

After the starting ceremony in Serenc on Friday evening, the first rapid on Saturday was in the vineyards of Mád, where the Mixi’s started calmly and quickly with a 2nd time. They continued in the second rapid, where they also managed a 2nd best time. All seemed to be well when it came to last year’s bogey stage Fóny-Óhuta, where unfortunately Mixi dropped the car again this year. Unfortunately the damage was considerable, so it was time to end the season-ending race early for our team duo. This dashed any dreams of a championship title this year.

M. Csomós – A. Nagy:

We are very sorry. We can’t put into words how we feel right now. Thank you to everyone who is still with us after this!

Miklós Csomós – Attila Nagy won three races this year (Veszprém, Mecsek, Győr), which was enough to finish the year in 2nd place. We are proud of our boys!

The final results of the championship, TOP 3:

1.      Ádám Velenczei – Zsolt Vánsza 169 points
2.     Csomós Miklós – Nagy Attila 157 points
3.     Gábor Német – Gergely Németh 136 points
