We have reached the second half of the Hungarian championship fight in Székesfehérvár. The fourth round of the six-round championship was held in the City of Kings and its surroundings. The main part of the event took place on Saturday and Sunday, with three stages and an evening city super special on the first day, followed by eight more fast races on the final day. We battled it out with the pair of Miklós Csomós and Attila Nagy, who had been leading the championship in the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 before the race, although their lead over the duo of Frigyes Turán and Gábor Zsíros was minimal.
Saturday included three fast stages, three of them in Oroszlány, over 17.3 kilometres and in sweltering heat. Mixi Csomós and Attila Nagy took the first rapid with a small lead, but they won. Then came the same thing that happened in 2021 on the same course, when Mixi and Andris Hadik were fighting for the championship. Unfortunately, our duo had a puncture at the beginning of the rapid, which they had to replace inside the rapid, losing more than 2 minutes and pretty much everything they came for. It wasn’t over yet! The last measured rapid of the day saw another puncture and all seemed to be lost. By the end of the day they had accumulated a 3 minute 35 second deficit and finished in 18th place. The disappointment was not so evident in the evening superspecial in Székesfehérvár. In front of thousands of people, the Mixi’s put on a spectacular performance.
M. Csomós – A. Nagy:
“We simply don’t know where we got it. It’s hard to stay motivated after all this, but we’re glad that we didn’t change the car on the last stage, but it didn’t do any damage to our car!”
The objective for the Csomós family on Sunday was to move up as high as possible in the standings and take the Power Stage. The day consisted of three rounds. In the first two, there were three fast laps, while the last two stages had to be completed. After the first three fast laps, they had won two stages and had improved seven places to 11th, which was already a points position. There was no chance to slow down in the second lap, and the Mixis didn’t, they were already in 7th place in absolute terms. By the last two races, 5th place was still a realistic position to finish. Well, these two were completed at a relentlessly fast pace by Csomós and Nagy and they took 5th place and the Power Stage. This gave them 22 points and they made the most of their weekend considering the conditions. Their biggest rival in the championship, Frigyes Turán and Gábor Zsíros, were even more unlucky this weekend and could only manage 4.5 points. The Mixi’s were able to increase their lead over them.
M. Csomós – A. Nagy:
“Of course, we didn’t come here for this, we wouldn’t be satisfied with it, but after yesterday’s two punctures and the almost four-minute deficit we were still happy. We came up from 18th place, and with the many points we gained we managed to confirm our leading position in the overall standings of the Hungarian championship!”
The championship standings after four races:
1. Csomós Miklós 122
2. Turán Frigyes 103
3. Velenczei Ádám 96
4. Német Gábor 85,5
5. Klausz Kristóf 77
6. Tóth Tibor 71
Congratulations to Mixi! Continuation in Győr, 6-8 September.
